Advanced Medical Transport's Mobile Intensive Care Service

In the world of medicine, there are often instances when a critically ill patient needs to be transferred to a different healthcare facility. Whether the transfer is due to a need for specialized physicians or more sophisticated technology, one thing never changes: the transfer creates a potential risk to the patient's life.

That's why critical care nurses developed the Critical Care Paramedic program for the healthcare professionals who staff our Mobile Intensive Care Unit. Approved by our Medical Director as well as the Illinois Department of Public Health, this program meets the rigorous requirements of the highest quality critical care.

How do Critical Care Paramedics earn their certification?

  • Complete an additional 210 hours of comprehensive critical care training in addition to the 1,100 hours of standard paramedic training
  • Pass a qualifying critical care examination
  • Participate in clinical rotations through various intensive care units
  • Attend monthly case reviews with our Medical Director and critical care nurses
  • Receive a minimum of 48 hours of ongoing education annually

Critical Care Paramedics are supervised by physicians through online medical control and carry advanced EKG systems, invasive monitoring devices and ventilators. With specialized technology that sets it apart from the standard ambulance, our Mobile Intensive Care Unit is a vital link between healthcare facilities.

Mobile Intensive Care Service should be utilized when…

  • Quality critical care is a must, but speed is not
  • A patient needs to be transferred at significantly less cost than air
  • Ordinary ground transportation does not meet your patient's needs
  • You need to keep your staff on location to minimize disruption and strain
  • You want the comfort of receiving feedback on your transferred patient
  • You want the assurance that the quality care your patient receives is provided by paramedics acting under medical direction and supervised through online physician control
