Advanced Medical Transport's "Andy the Ambulance"

Hi boys and girls! I'm Andy the ambulance, and I have some very important things to tell you about safety.

But first, I want to teach you a rhyme, and I want you to always remember it. It goes like this…

"Stay alert. Don't get hurt!"

This rhyme will help you to remember to be safe so that you don't get hurt. Sometimes people do get sick or hurt and my big brother, the real ambulance that the EMTs ride in, has to come to help. The EMTs take the person to the hospital where doctors and nurses are waiting to help that person get better.

Now, there is a very special way to call for an ambulance. It's by dialing 9-1-1 on your phone. There are some very important things to know about calling 9-1-1.

First, 9-1-1 should only be called if it is a real emergency, like a bad accident or if you can't wake someone up. You should not call 9-1-1 for things like a skinned knee, or if you have a cold, or if you are watching a scary movie on TV. For things like this, you should get your mom, dad, or another grownup to help you.

Now that you know when you should call 9-1-1, let's talk about what you will need to know when you call. The thing to remember is to stay calm and try to speak clearly. It's important that the operator who answers your call can understand what you are saying.

Also, it's really important that you do not hang up the phone until the operator tells you to. Remember, stay calm and don't hang up!

The operator is trained to help you and will ask you some questions. Here are some things they will ask you…

First, they will ask you your name.

Next, they will ask where you are calling from.

Next, they are going to ask you what is wrong. You'll need to explain to them what is wrong with the person that needs the ambulance.

You will also need to make sure that the door is unlocked, and if it's dark outside, make sure the light on the porch or outside the house is on. This way, the EMTs can find you quicker and help the person who is sick or hurt. Always remember that EMTs are your friends and want to help you.

Now, when the ambulance arrives, you will probably hear sirens and see lights like mine.

If you see an ambulance on the street, or hear the ambulance's sirens, please remember to stay back away from the street so that you don't get hurt. Never run out into the street to see the ambulance.

Also, we want you to stay safe. We want you to always wear your seat belt and always wear your helmet when you ride your bike or if you are rollerblading or skateboarding. Never play with matches or lighters and always look both ways when you are crossing the street. Please don't play in the streets or near the streets.

To stay healthy, you need to eat food that is good for you, and you need to stay away from alcohol, drugs and smoking.

Remember to always…

"Stay alert and don't get hurt!"

Thanks, kids.
